Let’s set sail…

Discover the Best Beach Clubs in the South of France

Club 55 – St Tropez

Where better to start our South of France beach club journey than with the famous Club 55 – the number one place for celebrity spotting. Founded in 1955 and situated on Pamelonne beach, the Club 55 philosophy is simple “Here, the customer is not the king… because he is a friend.”

Steeped in history, Club 55 was born “accidentally”. Originally a private bungalow that got mistaken for a bistro when the cast and crew of Roger Vadim’s And God Created Women needed somewhere to dine and so asked the owner if they could have something to eat. The owner kindly agreed to cook them all a meal – and that humble bungalow (which still stands today) was soon transformed into the Club 55 beach club.

Monte-Carlo Beach Club – Monaco

The Monte-Carlo Beach Club is undoubtedly the most impressive and prestigious of all the beach clubs in Monaco – and the most fun. With an Olympic-sized saltwater swimming pool and a whole host of water sports activities on offer – from parasailing to flyboarding – Monte-Carlo will take your beach club experience to the next level. There’s also a spa and a Michelin star restaurant overlooking the turquoise sea. Glorious.

Plage Keller – Cap D’Antibes

Another beach club with a star-studded history. Plage Keller sits on the Plage de la Garoupe beach, where, in the 1920s, an American couple single-handedly launched the French Riviera as a summertime destination by clearing the cove of debris and seaweed and inviting Picasso, Hemingway and Fitzgerald to sunbathe, swim and be inspired by the scenery. Today, Plage Keller is renowned as one of the best beach clubs in the area, offering incredible views of the nearby Alpes and delicious Mediterranean cuisine.

Paloma Beach – Cap Ferrat

Named after Picasso’s daughter and family-run since 1948, the beach club at Paloma Beach is situated in the stunning bay of Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat. With incredible views of dramatic cliffs and glittering seas, Paloma Beach encapsulates the French Riviera experience – enjoy a chilled glass of rose, exquisite seafood and ultra-friendly service while you relax and listen to the cicadas buzzing in the nearby pines.

Baoli Beach – Cannes

Putting the “club” in beach club, Baoli Beach is renowned for its party atmosphere, with live DJs creating a party vibe that lasts long through the night. There’s great food, too, to be enjoyed either at a table on the sand or along the large jetty in a fancy deckchair. Baoli Beach is another celebrity hotspot, so you might get a chance to capture an Insta-worthy selfie with a famous face.

Final Thoughts

There’s nothing quite like the South of France beach club experience. It will be a high-price excursion, for sure, but worth every penny.
